Since the release of their debut album "Stick By This", Dusky aka Alfie Granger-Howell and Nick Harriman have emerged as the bright hopes of the UK house scene. Jamie Jones opened his DC10 closing party set with their track "Tyto Alba", Pete Tong has been caning their album tracks, while eclectic tastemakers like Bestival's Rob Da Bank and Zane Lowe have also been giving them mainstream radio support.

Having already been played as an Essential New Tune contender on Pete Tong's Radio 1 show, "Lost Highway" is a deep house classic in the making from the duo. With the past two editions both hitting #1 in the iTunes Dance Albums Chart, “Anjunadeep 04” mixed by Jaytech and James Grant arrives with the label in ruder health than ever before - as evidenced by a recent DJ Mag nomination for Best British Record Label.

The last 12 months has seen the Above & Beyond imprint unveil one of house music's hottest new talents in Dusky, whose album "Stick By This" has been acclaimed by everyone from DJ Magazine (“an intoxicating album full of live and flashes of brilliance") to Pete Tong - with Tong naming it as one of his favourite albums of the year - while other Anjunadeep artists such as Matt Lange and Andrew Bayer on the label have blossomed. The former being described by Zane Lowe as "progressive club at its finest" and the latter's "It's Artificial" LP winning plaudits from DJ Mag, Zane Lowe again and even Nick Grimshaw.

Showcasing tracks and remixes from acts like Dusky, Tom Middleton, Maceo Plex, Vincenzo and Solarity, “Anjunadeep 04” mixed by Jaytech & James Grant is the latest showcase of the label’s evolution; a 28 track journey through deep house, immersive melodic grooves and modern progressive.

Representing the deeper, more house-influenced end of Anjunadeep’s increasingly wide spectrum, label A&R James Grant effortlessly combines warm Maceo Plex'esque electronics, classic deep house vibes (Dusky “Lost Highway”), low-bass grooves (Tom Middleton’s Liquatech Mix of Paronator “No Gravity”) and the melodic house sound in which Anjunadeep has made its name.

Grant also contributes three remixes to the mix in collaboration with Andrew Bayer and acknowledges the key role played by Bayer in achieving the desired sound for CD1: "We had an idea of where the label's sound should be heading this year and Andrew really helped me realise that in this mix," says Grant.

Taking time out from finishing his highly anticipated second artist album, Australian Anjunadeep star Jaytech picks up the baton and pursues the more upbeat side of the label’s sound. With Above & Beyond's Saturday 7th April show at O2 Academy Brixton selling out in record time, the Anjunabeats trio have responded to huge demand from fans by adding a second Brixton date on Sunday 8th April to create a Group Therapy Easter Weekender.

We are pleased to announce Sander van Doorn and Mat Zo, two of the most pioneering forces in electronic music right now, who will be joining Jono, Paavo and Tony in Brixton on Sunday 8th April.

Dutch maestro Sander Van Doorn arrives hot on the heels of his acclaimed second artist album "Elev11". A producer that has long blurred the boundaries between trance, house and tech, Sander has consistently excelled as a trend-setter and enjoyed recent hits such as "Drink To Get Drunk" and his collaboration with former Bloc Party frontman Kele – "What Did I Do".

One of the hottest properties in dance music right now, the fast-rising Mat Zo is someone that needs little introduction. With crossover anthems like "Superman" and "Mozart" (with Arty) getting support from heavyweights like Axwell, Skrillex and, of course, Above & Beyond, the London based innovator is currently putting the finishing touches to his hotly anticipated debut artist album - some of which he will surely be road-testing at the show itself.

An epic showpiece of Above & Beyond's TATW400 set in Beirut, Keyworth's own remix is a throbbing nine minute journey into the unknown. With sweeping electronic strings setting the scene, Keyworth slowly shifts into an accelerating blur of edgy sirens, tech-trance rhythms and crashes. Changing gear yet again, it drops into a deep chasm with shades of Pink Floyd in its dramatic piano tinkled breakdown - only to take off at full throttle once again.

"We selected a winner based on a combination of factors: creative use of the parts, production skills, groove, atmosphere, musical sensibility and overall finesse. We had a hard time choosing, but in the end the Hugga Thugg remix came out on top for us. Swirling melodic grooves carry the track forward, whilst Janai's vocals are used subtly yet inventively, taking the track in a fresh direction. With a strong buzz developing around them, Ukrainian duo Ost & Meyer are the latest rising stars to join the Anjunabeats label family.

Featured on "Anjunabeats Volume 9" mixed by Above & Beyond, "Britanica" combines rolling tech-edged grooves with big, bright synth melodies that raise the emotion levels instantly. Kicking off with the first date of a new Las Vegas residency at Lavo (Marquee) on Tuesday January 17th, the tour will see Above & Beyond visit several American and Canadian cities for the very first time. The first leg of 'Group Therapy North America' will involve shows in Hartford, Syracuse, Waterloo, Kitchener (Canada) and Norfolk, as well as more familiar stopovers in major cities like Montreal, Boston, Minneapolis and San Diego (with the first of two Fluxx shows already sold out and the second on the brink).

A collaborative project between legendary trance producer Darren Tate and Harry Diamond from electro act My Digital Enemy, Tate & Diamond make their debut on Anjunabeats with the electro-edged trouse of "Electrified".

First coming to the attention of Above & Beyond's Jono via Darren, who he collaborated with on classic tracks like "Let The Light Shine In", "Electrified" instantly won fans within the Anjunabeats camp thanks to the strong musical content of its warm melodic chords.

With an almost French house feel to the melodies and instantly catchy vocals from Nicolai, "Electrified" quickly captures fans - before flipping cleverly into cheeky electro bleeps and rolling grooves. As one of Anjunabeats' longest serving artists, it's hardly surprising that Oliver Smith provides three tracks to their latest "Volume" compilation "Anjunabeats Volume 9" in "Symmetry", "New Dawn" and “Progress”.

Following "Butterfly Effect" and his excellent rework of Andrew Bayer's "From The Earth" earlier this year, Smith's first single from "Anjunabeats Volume 9" is the recently released "Symmetry". We caught up with Olie and quizzed him about his history, his tracks on "Anjunabeats Volume 9" and who rank as his favourite vocalists of all time.

Who is your greatest musical influence?
"I'm a bit of a musical magpie so it's hard for me to choose just one 'greatest musical influence'. I like to take ideas from all over the place and combine them to make my own sound. I listen to a lot of different types of music and I'm also influenced by film, television, photography, design, etc. I feed all these ideas into my work in one way or another. It's good to stay open minded."

What do you consider to be your proudest achievement so far?
"I'm proud that I've been able to make a career out of doing what I love, and also that I get the opportunity to touch people's lives with my music."

Mixmag once described you as “the best thing to happen in trance”, what is the best thing that has happened to you recently?
"I played at the Anjunabeats Volume 9 party at Ministry of Sound in London the other week. The club has a great sound system so it was a pleasure to share some of my new tracks with the loyal Anjunabeats followers that came along for the night."

As well as your solo work, you are also well known for being one half of Smith & Pledger, how does it compare working on a solo project as opposed to working in a collaboration?
"In some ways it can be more difficult working on your own as you don't have the luxury of a second opinion. On the other hand, it means you can choose your own path and follow whatever direction inspires you. I am thinking about doing some more collaborations at some stage in the future as it can lead you to different results, but working on my own is also very rewarding."

Three of your new tracks appear on “Anjunabeats Volume 9” the first of which is “New Dawn”. Can you tell us about this track and the meaning behind the title?
"I named the track "New Dawn" because it has an optimistic feel to it, full of possibility, like a new day. As with the majority of my music, it is quite melodic, but also underpinned by a solid groove. It's good to have some uplifting and optimistic sounds in these troubled times!"

Also appearing on “Anjnabeats Volume 9” are “Symmetry” and “Progress”. What are the stories behind these tracks and how do all your tracks on “Volume 9” differ from one another?
""Symmetry" took quite a long time between the initial idea and the final record. I like the atmosphere it has and the melody is quite infectious, so I knew I had to finish it! "Progress" came together much more quickly and was written specifically for "Anjunabeats Volume 9". The twinkling arpeggio that punctuates the track reminds me of "The Goonies" or some eighties sci-fi movies from my childhood. I think the triumphant chords make quite a nice finish to CD 1."

Your track “Butterfly Effect” was also released on Anjunabeats earlier this year, how did your relationship with the label begin?
"I have been working with Anjunabeats from the very beginning. I was one of the first artists that they signed to the label and met the guys at university. I have fond memories of the early days when it was just a small company that Jono and Paavo were running out of their bedrooms and funding with their student loans!"

What plans do you have in the works for the future?
"I'm currently working on a remix and some more original tracks. "Symmetry" just came out as a single, with a 7 Skies remix. Anjunabeats will also be releasing "Progress" and "New Dawn" over the coming months with accompanying remixes. I'm certainly going to be keeping busy in the studio in the near future!"

Since the release of their second artist album "Group Therapy" ("the biggest artist album of the year *****" Mixmag), Above & Beyond have toured the stadiums and concert halls of the world - creating an electric vibe wherever they go. For 2012, the globe-trotting Above & Beyond will embark on their biggest UK tour to date kicking off at London’s most prestigious concert venue Brixton’s O2 Academy on Saturday 7th April 2012 followed by performances in Birmingham, Leeds, Liverpool, Newcastle and Glasgow - bringing the full Group Therapy production with them.

Bruce Karlsson and Nick Sember, better known as Norin & Rad, have been making big waves in the electronic music world this year. Hailed by Above & Beyond as their breakthrough producers of the year, the South Californian trance duo have been producing some of the most exciting tracks around and living up to their fast growing reputation.

Having remixed Mike Koglin vs Genix “Helion” on Anjunabeats earlier this year, they’re now back with their first original Anjunabeats release “Bloom” - which will be appearing on “Anjunabeats Volume 9”. We had a chat to the guys about their musical influences, “Bloom", and who they consider the top DJs of all time.

How did you first meet and what made you want to make music together?
"We first met at an event in Los Angeles through some mutual friends. After talking for a bit we realized we both had backgrounds in music and decided to collaborate."

Who would you say are your main musical influences?
"We listen to a wide variety of electronic music. Our influences can range from Emancipator and Flying Lotus to Andrew Bayer and Arty. It really depends on the track we're working on."

Your first release on Anjunabeats, “Bloom”, will be appearing on “Anjunabeats Volume 9”. Can you tell us a little more about this track?
"Well we called the track "Bloom" because of its progression. We started off real strong with our usual hard hitting bass, but decided to open this track up to an epic finale. So in a way, the track "blooms"."

Why did you decide to release “Bloom” on Anjunabeats and how did your relationship with the label come about?
"Anjunabeats came to us to remix Mike Koglin & Genix's track "Helion", and that's how our relationship with the label began. After the remix was released, Anjunabeats asked us for some original material. Being big fans of the label and Above & Beyond themselves, we gladly obliged with "Bloom"."

How would you describe your sound and what do you think makes it so unique?
"Well if we had to, we would describe our sound as fresh and unique because we don't stick to one theme or idea. We constantly change our style and never copy and paste in our projects. We feel that starting with a clean slate and a fresh project file will always make the turn out unique."

If you could remix any song in history what would it be and what would you do with it?
"If we could remix any song in the world it would be Daft Punk “Robot Rock". We love that feel it has. The tune was way ahead of its time!"

We hear that you grew up with very different musical influences and tastes. Do you find that having such varied backgrounds helps you to avoid being constricted by genre and frees you to experiment with sound?
"It's a blessing to have such a wide variety of tastes because we never stop creating new ideas. Our sound is always changing depending on what we are influenced by at that moment and it makes it very easy to keep our tracks fresh and unique. We never feel constricted because when we're working we aren't so focused on making it a "house" or "trance" track, but more focused on making it a dance track, one that will keep your hands up and your feet moving throughout."

Above & Beyond hailed you as their ones to watch in their Top 100 DJ Mag interview, what should we be looking out for from you in the future?
"We were blown away when we heard the news. We can't thank Above & Beyond enough for all the support they've given us this year. We have some very unique sounds lined up for 2012 and we can't wait to see the fans’ reaction.

"We've also just found a new vocalist that we believe will push us even further in 2012. We can't say who yet, but what we can say is that we've already started our first vocal track. We also have talks about a side project with this vocalist to dip our feet into even more styles of EDM in 2012. We have a very big year planned."

“Bloom” features on the 9th edition of the Anjunabeats Volume series. Who are your Top 9 DJs of all time?
"We would probably go with a lot of the bigger names and ones that are real turntablists. The list would look something like this...

After February's Anjunadeep 03 launch and the mayhem of Above & Beyond’s April show, we celebrate the release of Above & Beyond’s "Anjunabeats Volume 9" – the latest edition of their annual flagship label compilation.

Having recently celebrated fifteen memorable years, Kyau & Albert have a relationship with Above & Beyond and Anjunabeats that goes back deep into history. With their seminal classics like "Are You Fine?" released on Anjunabeats, the German duo have remained long time friends of the label – collaborating with Above & Beyond on last year’s “Anphonic”, remixing their recent single "You Got To Go" (feat. Zoe Johnston) and joining them at this year’s Anjunabeats In Miami party at the colossal Ice Palace.

Ukrainian duo, Ost & Meyer, have had a busy few years. Since beginning their production journey together in 2009, Ost & Meyer have been building up an enviable discography within the trance scene - cementing their position as one of the most exciting, upcoming duos in the scene.

Their first release on Anjunabeats, “Britanica”, will be appearing on this year’s edition of Above & Beyond’s celebrated annual label compilation, “Anjunabeats Volume 9”.

As the release of “Anjunabeats Volume 9” gets closer and closer, we found time to chat to the guys about the music scene in Kiev, how their relationship with Anjunabeats came about and their favourite Egyptian beach resort.

How did you first meet and what made you want to work together?
"Well, we met in summer 2008 when we were working as members of a Ukrainian promo group organizing open-air parties. After that we began to work closely together and play at most Ukrainian club parties. In 2008 we were still playing electro trance and nu rave, but even then we actively listened to and loved Above & Beyond's Trance Around The World.

"In 2009, we realised that our musical tastes were identical, and therefore decided to try to work together to unite our creative energy and ideas for the benefit of a super high-quality sound. But in those days we had a lot of other musical projects and did not have our own studio. Nikita is a professional musician, keyboardist and music teacher, and a few years ago he played in a funk band, so our time to work together was very little.

"A year later everything changed for the better. Nikita left the funk band, bought a studio microphone, and started doing audio commercials for radio and TV. This meant more time for music production. We continued to work together, created the Ost & Meyer project and then opened our own professional studio in Kiev this summer."

Your track “Britanica” appears on “Anjunabeats Volume 9”, can you tell us a little bit about the track?
"Hmm, quite an interesting question. We finished the track in early September, but before we sent it to Anjunabeats we had to invent a name for it. It was probably the most difficult phase of the track. Nothing came to mind. After that we watched a documentary about the collapse of the cruise liner "Britannic" in 1916. And then, we said: "Wow! Yeah! That's exactly what we need! Just add one letter A at the end. And so it turned out with the name “Britanica”."

How would you describe your sound and what makes it distinct?
"Perhaps most of all, we love to experiment in creating sound. In each style, we aim to take the best bits and unify them all into one product. With each track, we try to give it its own feature and originality. But do not forget that the music industry is an escalator that is moving in the opposite direction you're running in. As for artists, it means - do not stop, in any case! You need to constantly grow and improve."

How did your relationship with Anjunabeats come about?
"Well, in May 2011 we uploaded our track “Scarlet Heaven” to the Anjunabeats Demo Uploader. A few days later, we got an answer from Jon O'Bir, Anjunabeats’ A&R Assistant. Therefore we had a support from Above & Beyond in TATW #374, and a few weeks later we received a contract for signing. But most of our friends in Ukraine did not believe that we could just get on Anjuna."

You have another track signed to Anjunabeats at the moment. Can you tell us about “Scarlet Heaven”?
" “Scarlet Heaven” was produced in May 2011. We came up with this name because we love to watch sunsets in the summer from airplane windows during their descent."

Apart from your own, what would be your favourite Anjunabeats release of 2011?
"We have a few favorite Anjunabeats releases in 2011. But most of all, we love Above & Beyond's “Thing Called Love” from their “Group Therapy” album. Also, we like Nitrous Oxide's “iPeople”, Mat Zo’s “Frequency Flyer”, and Arty’s “Zara”."

What do you do to relax when you’re not DJing or making music?
"Well, we like travel. Nikita has visited many countries, but our favorite beach resort is Sharm-El-Sheikh in Egypt. In Ukraine we like to make sushi at home with friends. Vadym likes bicycle and outdoor recreation. Sometimes we go to the cinema, and if we have time we go to clubs or events. But at the moment we have a lot of studio work and very little free time."

How is the music scene in Kiev distinct from the rest of the world?
"Ukrainian music culture is a mix of Russian and European cultures. You know it, as Ukrainian pop artists regularly take part in the Eurovision Song Contest. At trance events, every year we have many big artists like Above & Beyond or Armin van Buuren coming to big events like Godskitchen, Sensation and Global Gathering."

One of the freshest dance artists out there, Genix’s star is rising. This year’s hit “Helion” with Mike Koglin was a two times Webvote Winner on Above & Beyond’s Trance Around The World show, while his first appearance on Anjunabeats, a remix of 7 Skies’ “Caffeine” even found its way onto Eastenders.

He’s back with “Dyno”, the follow up to his Mike Koglin collaboration “Helion”, and a solo track “Higher State” which both appear on “Anjunabeats Volume 9”. We caught up with Genix and talked about his Passion residency, his Volume 9 tracks and his favourite clubs of all time.

Who would you say are your biggest musical influences?
"Well there have been many to be honest. The obvious names have always influenced me like Armin, Above & Beyond and Sander van Doorn. Also, working in a dance record shop as a teenager, I got a lot of big influence from record labels such as HOOJ, Lost Language, Platipus, Bonzai, Reset and of course the early Anjuna stuff too!"

You’re the resident DJ and promoter at Passion, how did that first come about and how does it feel to have a residency at one of the UK’s longest running Trance nights?
"To be honest it’s an absolute honour to be a resident for Passion. I’ve played alongside the likes of Paul van Dyk, Tiesto, Armin, Ferry Corsten, and pretty much everyone else at some amazing events. There is no other atmosphere like it that I have experienced. It’s really intimate and full of energy.

"We also have some really big nights coming up that I have to put a lot of thought into. So it really does keep me on my toes. We are coming up to our 17th birthday next year. Pretty amazing eh! I used to attend Passion as a clubber when I was younger and fell in love with it. I then became friends with former promoter JFK who created and established it into one of the biggest brands in the country. We started to work together and got in promotions, and it went from there."

Your track “Higher State” features on “Anjunabeats Volume 9”. Can you tell us a little bit about this track and why you think it stands out musically?
"Well this track kind of just happened... I was messing about with some sounds one Saturday afternoon, after I had been to the gym, and came up with a nice melody concept. To be honest I really like the melodies in this and the sequence in which they flow. I wanted to create a big stabby bassline sound for the intro too, which I think generates some power for the dance floors."

Also appearing on “Anjunabeats Volume 9” is your follow up to “Helion”, “DYNO” with Mike Koglin. How does it feel to be working with Mike again and how is “DYNO” different from “Helion”?
"It feels great to be working with Mike again! He’s a really cool guy! I really love “Dyno” personally, and prefer it to “Helion”. We wanted to try and keep a similar feel to the bassline and keep some kind of consistency with the collaborations. “Dyno” however, has a more complex bassline and sequencing than “Helion”, and the melodies are very different. But, if you like “Helion”, then I think you will love “Dyno” too! I’ve played it in a few clubs and I have to say that it has really worked on the dance floor!"

What sounds or themes run through all of your music and characterise your sound?
"Well, to be honest, I think that as a producer you have to have your own sound and style. There are so many producers out there who copy ideas and try to replicate work. Personally, I think the correct way to do it is to be influenced, but to be yourself as an artist so that you are unique. A lot of people tell me that they can tell a Genix track. That’s a good thing in my opinion because I have created something that resembles me, and my music. My so-called Genix sounds are pretty raw basslines and a cool groove. I have also been producing a lot more melodic stuff these last few years. I’m really happy with my musical direction at the minute."

How did your relationship with Anjunabeats first begin and how has it evolved over time?
"Well, you could say it started way back when I worked in the record shop as a teenager! I was lucky enough to get all of the Anjuna releases as soon as they were released and I used to collect every single one from the beginning. As an aspiring producer it was always a dream to one day be involved with them. My first actual release on the label was a remix for 7 Skies last year called “Caffeine”. This was followed up by a remix of “Sun” by Slusnik Luna. I then worked on the collaboration with Mike Koglin and signed “Helion” which has now been followed up with “Dyno”. I was then asked for new material so I made “Higher State” and I’m also working on a load of other new projects!"

How did it feel to have your remix of 7 Skies appear on EastEnders?
"HaHa! How did this feel? I laughed! I had a text from my mate saying he had just heard the 7 Skies remix on EastEnders and I did not really believe him, but then people kept posting it on my Facebook! I checked it out on BBC iPlayer and yes it was on there! Phil Mitchell was in the club listening to it while it was on! Very surreal! Somebody told me once… you have only made it when your music has been played on EastEnders, so I hope that’s true!"

What exciting plans do you have in the works for the future?
"Well I have some Passion events coming up and some really cool gigs in Hawaii, LA, NYC, Dublin, Indonesia, and of course at Passion. On the production front, I have a few projects that I am working on including a vocal track with Jennifer Rene."

With the release of Dusky’s diverse debut album “Stick By This” LP, Anjunadeep's boundaries are being redrawn once again. Ambitious, expansive but brilliantly cohesive, “Stick By This” joins the dots between Booka Shade’s melodic electronica (“Falling”), Leftfield’s dub techno (“I’m Running”), the classic musicality of MJ Cole (“Lost In You”) and warm Laurent Garnier-esque techno (“Need You Back”).

Adding further colour to the album’s spectrum, the album’s first single - “Lost In You” - is a deep, bass-driven piano house anthem that features the soulful vocals of Janai and has gained props from US house godfather Tony Humphries and UK bass talent Toddla T – the latter supporting the track BBC Radio 1.

Finding fans at opposite ends of the dance music spectrum is nothing new for the Dusky duo. Previously existing as progressive/melodic house entity Solarity, Dusky are London based musicians Alfie Granger-Howell and Nick Harriman. As comfortable writing elegant orchestral pieces or stirring piano motifs as they are jackin’ garage house and epic techno grooves, their diverse sounds are united by the duo’s singular aim – to compose electronic music with depth, soul and originality.

"Human Turbines" is the second Anjuna collaboration between Lithuanian producer Edu and Russia’s Cramp and follows in the footsteps of the breathlessly uplifting "Silver Sand" which touched down on the label earlier this year.

A favourite in the sets of Above & Beyond, "iPeople" might take a less pacey approach than Nitrous Oxide's past tracks, but it packs a serious amount of power, punch and energy into its six minute surge. Building waves of twisted tech-bass wriggles and bright synth splashes, "iPeople" is all about the mother of all breakdowns - where the bright, stadium-sized synth lasers fill the track with surging colour.

The uplifting, anthemic second track "Gr8!" initially seems like a nod to Nitrous' past sounds - with breathless vocal refrains and shiny trance melodies - but injects a modern twist after the breakdown. A fresh fusion of different sounds, it completes a double A assault from the returning Polish trance pioneer.

A reminder that voting is now open for the "You Got To Go" remix competition - held by Above & Beyond and Beatport. Those who have taken part have until 18th October to collect their votes on Beatportal - each vote is earned per play of the remix. The Anjunabeats label team will narrow down their selections to 10 finalists; those 10, along with Beatportal’s top 10 community-voted remixes, will then move on to the final round, with Above & Beyond themselves selecting the grand-prize winner.

Zoë Johnston Interview

A vital ingredient within the complex musical mix of "Group Therapy", Zoë Johnston began her relationship with Above & Beyond through tracks like the now-classic "Good For Me" and "No One On Earth" - having previously worked with names like Faithless, Midlands downtempo legends Bent and Delerium.

As her bond with Jono, Tony and Paavo continued to grow, Johnston naturally developed into the dominant female voice on their second album "Group Therapy" - contributing her distinctive, searching tones to tracks like "Love Is Not Enough", "Alchemy" and current single "You Got To Go". As "You Go To Go" hits the download stores, we caught up with one of the UK's finest female vocalists to delve a little further into her past and present.

How did your relationship with Above & Beyond first come about?
"I got a call from my cousin some years ago telling me about his old school friend Jono Grant, who was writing music with two other guys and seeking a voice for the newer tracks. My name had come up, numbers got passed along, I received a brilliant letter from Tony with drawings all up the margins and a CD with four tracks to listen to, got quite attached to one of them and between us all we then created "No-One On Earth".

Why do you think your vocals fit so well with Above & Beyond’s music?
"I think everybody's personalities come through well in the music and somehow that creates balance. There's probably a good mixture of moods and textures in there due to all the hands on board, and maybe where there's a lot of grittiness my voice provides a bit of contrast. I think that contrast allows the ear to appreciate each part more than if they stood alone."

What has been your favourite moment working with them?
"I've had so many lovely, lovely times with them I find that question very hard to answer. It honestly hasn't felt like work at all, any of it. I've had great times in their cosy studio, singing and writing and catching up on all our lives in between doing those things. Rolling on the floor in painful hysterics over something ridiculous in an L.A hotel, evening out all that is wonky with the world with Tony in his local pub, feeling such genuine togetherness whenever I've sung live with them all, sharing precious minutes of life with a few thousand people who are all united in having an emotional investment in the music.... I've had lots of favourite moments."

How would you describe Group Therapy’s overall sound and how does that differ from Tri-State?
"I think "Group Therapy" is resilient, tough, tenacious, stretched up tall, full of passion and happiness, courageous and wildly excited. I also think it is fairly bruised, raw, troubled, hurting, reflective, sad and wholly truthful. "Tri-State" has its own collection of associated words - some are the same, many others are different."

All the songs that you lend your vocals to on "Group Therapy" seem to have some focus on moving on and lost loves. Can you tell us some of the stories behind the songs?
"Not all of them are autobiographical. Some of them are, and yes, there is a lot of loss in there, as well as all the associated pain which attaches itself to sad events until healing eventually arrives at the door waving all its flags. It was very healing being able to reflect on things in the music. My heart is a lot fatter again now and I like it that way."

Which tracks on the album do you feel especially connected to?
"I love the line "I want to get home but there's water on the road" in "On My Way To Heaven". A massive part of my heart fell into "Love Is Not Enough" so that track will always mean a lot to me - and the optimistic message of "You Got To Go" also has a piece of me in it. I feel very connected to the album as a whole, too. I've been so touched by the constant Above & Beyond drive to include me, look after me, listen to me, absorb me into the project and really nurture whatever I chose to spill out. That along with forging some really great friendships has resulted in me being able to put so much more into the album (and consequently feeling much fonder of it) than I might have done if had I turned up to sing for a few hours and then got back on a train every once in a while."

Growing up, who influenced you musically and did you always know you wanted to be a musician?
"I never thought about 'being' a musician. I think I am just someone who can sing to say something. I feel fortunate because I don't know what I would do with the stuff inside me if I couldn't. When I was a child I just adored music of all different kinds, and then found comfort and release in writing my own. I was fascinated by songs which told stories which you instinctively knew to be the whole truth, and the bravery in saying something very personal. I was part of a big family growing up, so there was all sorts being played around the house – goth stuff, 60s pop, 70s folk, boy/girl band tunes, classical music, 30s love songs, fun stuff from the 80s. To name just a few I've absorbed and loved there's Stevie Wonder, Talk Talk, Beck, Joni Mitchell, Chet Baker, Bjork, Al Bowlly, Alison Krauss, Eddi Reader, Sting, Radiohead, George Michael, Neil Young..... "

I read that you work best when you’re alone at night, can you tell us more about your creative process and why you work that way?
"You must have read that a while ago! The alone bit is definitely true, but having a child altered the night-time indulgences a few years ago. It probably still would be my preference though. I like the stillness. I found I could think more freely within those spaces. I have almost always written and recorded alone, and I will always function better that way. If you're going to say something honest and considered about your own life, how can you do that with an external force chipping in? I think it's only by spending enough time by yourself that can you really, really, really know how you feel and what it is you want to say."

Finally, what does the future hold?
"Lots of happiness and lots of lovely people, I hope. Definitely more music – I've got dozens of songs of my own which are virtually finished but needing a little more attention and some pennies fed into them, and it's important to me that I get them out. I also paint a lot and have almost completed a huge photo-realist picture in acrylic called "Ice Cream" which I am planning on entering in a national competition shortly. I want to paint more to create a series and then put on an exhibition. Also, more exciting music projects and more live gigs with Above & Beyond, all being well. So long as it involves creating stuff and connecting with great people, I'll be happy."
